Metro Art Presents : L.A. Documentaries At Union Station #3 | “This Is The Life”

Union Station Historic Ticketing Hall

December 1, 2017 at 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Metro Art is pleased to present “This is the Life,” (2008, 97 min, Dir. Ava DuVernay) as the final installment of our documentary series about Los Angeles. Introduction by special guest B. Hall.

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required.

As an artist within the community itself, DuVernay chronicles the thriving alternative hip-hop movement of the 1990s as it evolved in Los Angeles. This documentary reminisces on the cultural significance of the Good Life Café, a former health food market and café in Los Angeles that became a hotbed in the hip-hop community due to its legendary open mic nights.

This documentary series highlights the vibrant social, cultural and artistic movements that flourished across Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s. All films in the series were directed by women. “This is the Life” features interviews by frequent Good Life Café performers who recall the influential platform that the space provided.

The film will be introduced by B. Hall, Co-founder and Manager of The Good Life’s weekly open mic night.

Metro Art Presents showcases an exciting array of arts and cultural programs at historic Union Station. All events are free and open to the public. For more information: unionstationla.com
