Summer Sessions 2018

Union Station Waiting Room

June 7 - June 10,2018 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m

Dont Miss the “Live Painting” on Thursday, June 7 from 10:00 a.m. – Noon

Acclaimed artist Alexa Meade will take over Union Station’s historic waiting room with an interactive art installation featuring an original 3D painting. The free exhibit – “Summer Sessions ’18” – will invite visitors to step into the living artwork and create their own expression of SoCal’s favorite season.

Alexa Meade takes an innovative approach to art. By applying paint directly to models and the surrounding scene, Meade creates the illusion that real-life people and places are inside the world of a 2D painting. Her unique technique results in an extraordinary experience that is part painting, part photograph and part performance art.

On Thursday, June 7, from 10 a.m. – noon, station visitors will be able to experience Summer Sessions ‘18 come to life as Alexa Meade paints a live model who will become a central character in the vibrant, swirling scene that will pop up in the historic Waiting Room for just four days.

From 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day, a guest curator will be on hand to assist station visitors in creating their own personal tableau that they are encouraged to snap and share on Instagram.

Meade has exhibited her art at the Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Saatchi Gallery in London; Galerie Ivo Kamm in Zürich; Palacio De Hierro in Mexico City; Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo; The Lincoln Center in New York City; The United Nations building; and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
