Tinsel on the Tracks

South Patio

December 2020

Union Station is taking its wildly popular tree lighting ceremony to Angelenos this year via Tinsel on the Tracks, a reimagined holiday experience. The virtual celebration of this extraordinary 2020 season includes a spectacular tree lighting under the stars on the station’s South Patio. In collaboration with Metro Art Presents, the program also features a performance from the acclaimed Grand Arts Chamber Singers.

In a classic start to the holiday season, Santa and his sidekicks roll into the historic station with ornaments representing the diverse communities across Los Angeles and illuminate a towering tree on the majestic South Patio with thousands of glistening lights. Now more than ever, the Union Station tree is a symbol of hope during the holidays for the thousands of essential workers who travel through the station each day.

To keep spirits bright, Union Station and Metro Art Presents welcome an elite group of students and alumni from the award-winning Grand Arts Chamber Singers who hail from neighboring Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts in downtown LA. The singers will perform from both the iconic station and from their homes throughout the city.

The virtual holiday celebration continues Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. when fans and followers can tune in to Facebook or YouTube for Holiday Song Tracks, a festive concert featuring acclaimed klezmer gypsy-rock band Mostly Kosher and the eclectic sound of East LA favorites Las Cafeteras.
