Union Station Summer Train Fest

This summer, L.A.’s iconic downtown venue will set “Dreams in Motion” with an up-close look at the magic of train travel at Union Station’s Summer Train Fest.

The free family event, held from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, will allow guest to climb aboard a rare collection of beautifully restored vintage train engines and cars from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s along with state-of-the-art Metrolink and Amtrak trains.

Train tours will include:

ZEPHYR SILVER FLEET: Three Budd-built stainless steel streamlined Zephyrs from the 1940s: Silver Lariat, Silver Rapids, Silver Solarium

THE UTAH: Vintage parlor café-lounge car from American Railway Explorer.

NATIONAL FORUM: 1956 Pullman sleeper car from the Pacific Railroad Society Inc.

METROLINK: Industry leading Tier 4 locomotive featuring a fuel-efficient engine that reduces emissions.

AMTRAK AND LOSSAN: Bi-level train cars alongside Pacific Surfliner cars.

In the historic Ticket Concourse, guest can enjoy the most extensive collection of model railroads ever displayed at Union Station with special tutorials from the Los Angeles Model Railroad Society, High Desert Modular Model Railroad Club (HDMMRC) and the award-winning Del Oro Pacific Large Scale Modular Railroader. A state-of-the-art 360° virtual reality station will feature a selection of train-themed experiences including a train ride through the Swiss Alps.

Metrolink, California High-Speed Rail and LACoMotion will offer an interactive glance into the high-tech future of transportation including a train themed selfie station, while the Los Angeles Union Station Historical Society, Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation and the Travel Town Museum will showcase the storied past of rail transportation in the city.

On the South Patio, an expanded Kids’ Zone will feature a Thomas the Tank Engine play area, Boy Scout Story Time, face painting, arts and crafts, and train-themed games and entertainment throughout the day.

L.A.’s premier food trucks and music from the city’s hottest DJs will keep the festivities “on track,” while the Whistle Stop Gift Shop will offer a variety of train-themed toys and Union Station L.A. merchandise.

Additionally, California Operation Lifesaver will be providing train-safety education and awareness; and Filmore & Western Railway will have their famous “movie trains” lighting up the silver screen.

Check in at the Union Station Information Booth for a festival map and free Event Passport. The first 1,000 guests to complete the passport will receive a commemorative Summer Train Fest pin.

Union Stations Summer Train Fest is hosted by Metro in partnership with Metrolink, Amtrak and LOSSAN.
