Son Mayor One of the most sought-after Latin bands in Los Angeles, Son Mayor brings a captivating vintage and contemporary Cuban sound. Voted “Best Salsa Band” by the LA Weekly, the high-energy band formed nearly two decades ago and has since performed alongside major artists such as Chucho Valdez at the Hollywood Bowl, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Los Van Van, Sonora Ponceña, Oscar D’León, El Canario, Ozomatli, and Los Muñequitos De Matanzas. Led by the Ortiz brothers–Eddie, Julian, Alfred “El Niño,” and Georgie–the band features a danceable blend of horn, bass, and percussion.
Rumbankete Founded in 2004 by a collective of the Los Angeles area’s prominent salsa musicians, Rumbankete has earned a reputation as one of the West Coast’s most exciting and progressive salsa orchestra. Known for its explosive rhythm section, powerful trombones and energetic vocal delivery, this truly international orchestra (with members hailing from Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico and the United States) is also known “La Máquina del Sabor”, a take no prisoners music machine able to get any audience moving!
SitaraSon In the Ancient language of Sanskrit, the word “sitara” means star, also describing something bright, fresh and new. SitaraSon brings a bright new concept to the Cuban style of Son Music. This Los Angeles Based group plays a variety of Cuban Dance music with influences from Afro-Cuban Folklore. They are also known to improvise entire songs on stage and occasionally play other popular styles. SitaraSon is very fortunate to feature Legendary Singer/drummer Lázaro Galarraga. He began touring the world as a young man singing, dancing and drumming for the distinguished group Conjunto Folkorico Nacional de Cuba. He has received multiple Grammy’s and performed at the 1996 Atlantic City Olympics, The Latin Grammy’s and at the White House. He is a true treasure in his community and continues to share and create music with his group SitaraSon.
