City of Dreams, River of History, 1995

Union Station East

This multifaceted artwork considers the Los Angeles River’s history and original proximity to the station. Bordered by river motifs, an expansive mural represents the area’s earliest settlers and contemporary residents. Historical figures are also etched on the nearby aquarium glass, which houses indigenous coastal fish. Native plants and animals are among the bronze symbols inlaid in the surrounding pavement, and local river rocks and artifacts excavated from Los Angeles’s original Chinatown (in the vicinity of the the East Portal and Union Station) are embedded within a water feature atop an undulating tiled bench.https://art.metro.net/artworks/city-of-dreams-river-of-history/
