November 17, 2017 at 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join Metro Art in welcoming The Phil Ranelin Jazz Ensemble to Union Station for a rush hour Jazz concert. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required.

The Phil Ranelin Jazz Ensemble, led by trombonist/composer/arranger Phil Ranelin, is a multi-generational jazz ensemble formed in 1996. Since the formation of the group, the ensemble has shared the bill with Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp and organist Jimmy Smith. Born in Indianapolis Indiana, Ranelin has been a mainstay of the Los Angeles jazz scene since the late 1970s. In 1999, Ranelin was designated Cultural Ambassador for the City of Los Angeles and also designated a “Rare and Valuable Cultural Treasure.”

In September of 2016, Ranelin was invited back to his hometown of Indianapolis to perform at the Indy Jazz Festival in honor of Wes Montgomery and was also inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame.
